Autumn colours are here and so is the UVI project of AFAES. We have had and we still have very motivated Finnish students in our Finnish classes which take place in our premises every week day from 9 am till noon. This is the very core of our UVI project for asylum seekers and at the same time to anyone eager to learn Finnish and Finnish culture (UVI= Uussuomalaiseksi- verkostoitumis- ja integroitumishanke turvapaikanhakijoille).
The world has come to Vallila. We are from Cameroon, Somalia, Iran, Nigeria, Senegal, Gambia, Bangladesh etc. Life stories are here; everyone unique and precious, also touching. This is a very rich autumn, in experiences and also emotions. We have being taken this project slowly, step by step.
First getting to know our actors (who may leave us on the way back to their origin countries…) and their stories, current situations and needs. Good people have been found around them through our networking, eg. Caritas. Some of our actors are intensively volunteer working, meeting new people and getting new skills.
We are in the process of searching work, possibilities to study and personal mentors to our actors. To have a fresh new start and to get integrated.
On Friday 7.10.2016, we started our new Finnish club in the Punavuori Reception centre and we are looking forward to it to have some new actors, especially mothers, children and families. By now our Finnish students and actors have been mainly men.
As autumn advances we will be wiser and hopefully many success stories and beautiful experiences have been taken place.
Approaching November Christmas thoughts are here already every now and then. The reality life for most of our actors is uncertainty and anxiety about tomorrow. What will happen..? Can I stay in Finland; will I get the entrance to Heaven (this a straight borrowing from one of them)…will I be transferred; if yes, when and where..?
Imagine (Paul McCartney)
Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one
